INT 5201: SECOND YEAR STUDIO
SECOND YEAR STUDIO
PROJECT TWO: SON ET LUMIERE
EXERCISE : TO CONTINUE…
Start to investigate your site through a series of conceptual sketches that combine elements explored in your LIGHT MODELS + VISUAL RESEARCH (chosen architect and film). Present your drawings in a storyboard format that takes us from the alleyway entrance through to the heart of the building, and then back on to the street. Refer to Tracey Collins storyboard (Aotea Centre).
PROCESS:
1. Make a series of conceptual sketches that explore different spaces in your gallery. Continue to investigate and develop your lighting ideas. Keep your drawings free and imaginative. Use your drawings to test different ideas. Accompany your sketches with notes that inform us about your thinking.
Consider:
Entrance
Viewing gallery
Café/bar
Reception
Amenities (staff/public toilets)
Archive/Film Storage
Remember your spaces can be multi-functional. For example, you may want people to view films from the café and the film archives to be visible in the same space. (Please refer to main brief)
2. Continue to develop your design through your own visual and written research to FORM A STRONG CONCEPTUAL BASIS TO YOUR WORK.
Your light models have already been informed by your research, continue this process. What connections have you made between filmic space and architectural space? How have you expressed these ideas through your light models and how will this feed into the design of your film gallery?
PRESENT:
•x15 sketches (To be presented in a storyboard format)
NB. Your sketches must be accompanied by notes that inform us about your conceptual thinking, this written information may be interspersed throughout your storyboard
