Hi Students,
I am unwell today so I'm unable to come in for class this afternoon.
I suggest you use this time constructively (excuse the pun) and work on your assignment.
My suggestion is:
1) Get started by doing hand sketches of details where elements come together. Identify on the sketches materials, fixings and fittings that need to be resolved.
2) Secondly do a list of options for your materials, fixings and fittings ... it will help to look at magazines in the library to see what materials other designers use. Try to have at least 3 options for each thing. Once you have a list of options think about the pros & cons of each material.
3) It may help to make a list of requirements for the design which you can use as criteria for making future decisions. This may include things like 'lightweight', 'child-safe', 'transportable', 'durable', 'transparent', 'sustainable', 'zero-waste', 'suitable for mass production', 'handcrafted', 'flexible', 'cheap'.... think of your own requirements.
Remember to put all of this thinking & research directly into your journal. We will have time to review this work next week.
If any of you were absent last week please photocopy the assignment from a classmate. If you are unsure which design to details please decide with your classmates.
Please pass this message on...
Thank you & see you next week.
