Nanette Cameron Interior Design Scholarship

The Bachelor of Design interior major is most fortunate to have the support of Nanette Cameron and the Interior Design Guild. Each year the guild awards scholarships to three final year Bachelor of Design Interior students. Awards are given for excellence in studio and in drawing and a further award is given for the most improved performance over the third year of study.

Nanette’s School of Interior Design, based at Te Tuhi in Pakaranga, (http://www.tetuhi.org.nz/) is well recognised throughout the design industry. In its forty-plus year history the school has instilled an understanding and appreciation of design in thousands of students. In 2004 Nanette Cameron was awarded a Queen's Service Medal for her contribution to the community. She is also an honorary member of the Designers’ Institute of New Zealand

Nanette is best known as a teacher. After a degree course at Otago University, Nanette taught for several years before going overseas to spend time traveling and soaking up the arts and current developments in design.

Nanette began working in the interior design field at a time when the scene was dynamic in
Auckland. Architects such as The Group were changing the face of domestic architecture.
At the time there was a milieu of designers and artists, based around Vulcan Lane, involved in design for houses, interiors, lighting, furniture, ceramics and fashion, producing a stimulating cross fertilization of ideas.

Nanette is passionate about design, architecture, interiors, landscaping and has a thirst for new concepts and developments, which she delights in sharing.

The School of Design at Unitec is honored to have the support of Nanette and the Interior Design Guild.

The Nanette Cameron interior design scholarships were awarded last week at a function in the student gallery at Unitec.

The Interior Design Guild Scholarship winners in 2007 are:

Award for Studio, Kylie Giblin
