Dr Rachel Carley Lectures in Theory and Interior in the School of
Design and practices as a ceramic artist, bread making enthusiast
and product designer. Her seminar; "The Foreign Body” discusses Rachel
Whiteread's ‘Untitled (Room 101)’ .
Rachel Whiteread is a British artist slightly predating the YBA's of
the Damien Hurst ilk. Her work is simultaneously poetic, forensic,
starkly beautiful and monumental. It touches on issues relevant to
architecture, interior space, photography in its relationship to the
'indexical mark', sculpture and philosophy.
