Student Forum Meeting update November '07
• Next year's 1st year will be the last 1st year for the Bachelor of Design programme
• Product design will merge back with B.Design. New electives will be available for both departments.
• In the next few years to come, the School of Design will improve the learning facilities for the studio environment. Aiming for a more plasant atmosphere.
• Christchurch Polytech Insitute of Technology. Their Interior Design Department in MT. Eden is shutting down next year. 40 or so of their students will be joining the B.Design Interior students next year starting from January. They have a large tech library which will be coming as well.
• School of Design is looking into the possibility of becoming an official Apple training centre. When completed, SoD will be able to run certificate and tests for Final Cut Pro and other softwares.
• This year's Grad Show will have give-aways, including DVDs of the exhibition and badges etc. instead of just a printed publication. The intention of the DVD is free people from the limitation of a book.
• Looking into the possibility to have an off campus exhibition space, hopefully in a more crowded area in city. Currently considering the Aotea Square Redevelopment Project, where a hybrid of a shop and cafe could be the space where students exhibits their work.
• Possibility of summer courses/electives.
